First modification of Chaos Renegades?!

Ok. I am thinking that the all Vendetta list is very single minded. So I am going to work on getting to 1500 points first and go from there.

Company Command Squad w/meltagun
Company Commander w/power weapon, plasma pistol
Infantry platoon
Platoon Command w/meltagun

2 x Infantry Squad w/meltagun

30 Conscripts

Infantry platoon
Platoon Command w/meltagun

2 x Infantry Squad w/meltagun

Vendetta w/heavy bolter door gunners

3 x Vendetta w/heavy bolter door gunners

3 x Vendetta w/heavy bolter door gunners

From here, I would like to add a heavy choices..,perhaps a Hydra, a Manticore and some Russ variant?

  1. I haven't seen a massive vendetta list in action before (most I've seen has been 3 independent valks) but I would think that trying to maneuver them around the table would be a pain. Could be annoying to deal with though, and since you've already bought them, should be fun to see.

I think the first list is more the way to go, with multiple weapons in the squads and the higher BS.

Don't really see the point of the conscripts here. They're not solid enough to really hold anything or damage it. You'd be better off with the points spent beefing up other units I'd think.

If you do add some HS to the list, I'd think something indirect would be in order, like a manticore or other pie plates to pummel whatever spills out of the transports the vendettas open up.

  2. Just bear in mind that the first list is 2500 points while the second is trimmed down to 1500 points. I love the idea of a Manticore supporting these guys.

On the topic of conscripts. I love them. A big unit of conscripts to hold a single objective when objectives matter or to engage those "hard-to-kill" units that some armies have at range...I mean 30 conscripts throw 60-90 dice with a successful "First rank FIRE! Second rank FIRE! from a nearby command unit. I have had tons of luck with them when playing a guard firing line...so much that my usual lists include 2 big units of them. In fact, I really need to build enough Renegades to play that way.

Looking forward to picking up a couple of Hydras as well...maybe an basalisk or two.

  3. If you're having good luck with the conscripts, great. I just think you could be doing even better with regular platoon squads.

For an extra 30pts, you could be getting close to the same number of shots, and more reliably as you'd be testing on Ld8 vs. Ld5 for orders, and they'd be shooting at BS3 vs BS2. That Ld8 would also come in handy sitting on those objectives. In combat WS3 would also keep them from needing 5's to hit WS5, and the extra attacks from the sgts could help. Plus they get frags, which could occasionally help if you needed to charge Orks or Necrons, and would enable them to affect AV10 without extra upgrades.

At this point when you're still seeing where to spend points vs. trying to shave them, I think you should consider it. Still treat them like conscripts and use them the same way, but they'll perform better.

(For that 90 shots the 30 conscripts would get under 12" with FRFSRF at Ld5, they'd hit 30 times on average. The combined platoon squads would only get 84 shots due to pistols on sgts, but would hit 42 times, and test for the order at Ld8 vs. Ld5.)
